Review: Oliva V Melanio Double Toro

The brand new Oliva V Melanio Double Toro limited edition has arrived at Regency Cigar.  With just 500 boxes produced, we’re sure they will move quickly.  They are offered in boxes of 10 and measure in at 6 x 60.  Today I had the chance to smoke one for review.

The Oliva V Melanio Double Toro starts with a crisp spice similar to that of the other Melanio sizes.  The wrapper is flawless and the draw is great.

After smoking for about 20 minutes, I found this to be a Medium-Full bodied cigar.  In a contrast to other sizes, this double toro is more earthy and leathery.  However, there is still a presence of toast, cedar, and a bit of saltiness.  The burn is a little crooked, but it doesn’t affect my smoking experience at all.

I find the box press format really appealing; both aesthetically and practically.  It makes the cigar easier to manage.  I am impressed by how smooth this cigar is, offering a creamy texture to the smoke.  Overall, a pretty good cigar from start to finish.

If you’re a fan of larger ring gauges, this is a great opportunity to treat yourself to arguably the most limited cigar of 2014.
