Selected Tobacco built this set to mark Byron’s 175th anniversary in 2026. Rather than one cigar, the Tribute Set gathers four distinct blends, each representing a different chapter in the brand’s history.

As a result, smoking through the set becomes a kind of timeline. Each tube marks a different era of Byron, from its earliest roots to its most modern expression.

What’s Inside the Byron 175 Tribute Set

The set includes the Byron 1850 No. 3, a 6 x 52 vitola representing the brand’s founding era. It also includes the Byron 19th Century Grand Poemas, a 6 x 56 cigar built around that same historical period.

Continuing forward, the Byron 20th Century Habaneros fills out the middle of the timeline at 6 x 54. Finally, the Byron 21st Century Elegantes closes the set at 6 1/8 x 55, representing Byron’s most contemporary blend.

Every cigar in the set is handcrafted in Costa Rica with an Ecuadorian wrapper. Binder and filler draw on a mix of Dominican, Peruvian, and Nicaraguan tobaccos.

175 Years of Byron: A Brief History

Byron traces its name to Lord Byron, the English Romantic poet, and documented references to the brand appear in California newspapers as early as the 1850s. José and Eusebio Alfonso founded the brand a couple of decades after the poet’s death.

Today, Nelson Alfonso, a sixth-generation descendant of the founders, leads Selected Tobacco and continues that legacy. Consequently, this Tribute Set represents six generations of family history condensed into four cigars.

Not to Be Confused with the Byron 175th Anniversary Humidor

Selected Tobacco also released a separate Byron 175th Anniversary Humidor this year, limited to 175 units at roughly $5,000 each. That humidor holds 60 cigars across the same four lines featured here. This Tribute Set, by contrast, is a compact four-cigar sampler at a fraction of the price.

For collectors who want to try Byron’s full historical range without committing to a full humidor, this set is the more accessible entry point. Meanwhile, its individual aluminum tubes make each cigar easy to store, gift, or travel with.

Because Selected Tobacco has no additional production planned, availability is expected to be tight. Once a retailer’s allocation sells through, this set is unlikely to return in the same form.
