With the introduction of the Grand Cru Diademas Finas Limited Edition Collection, the leading global brand of premium handmade cigars has shared another fascinating detail about its production: Davidoff cultivates 15 unique terroirs in the Dominican Republic. Each terroir produces tobaccos that offer distinct sensory experiences, with varying growing conditions leading to different flavor profiles.

“The concept of using different terroirs in winemaking and blending at least three main grape varieties in French wine inspired Zino Davidoff in 1946 to create a cigar line blended like a fine red wine. This line, known today as Grand Cru, originates from this wine-cigar analogy,” explains Edward Simon, CMO at Oettinger Davidoff. “Our new Grand Cru Diademas Finas, featuring wine cask-aged filler tobacco, embodies this idea, perfectly reflecting the primary aromas of a well-aged red wine.”

Tasting Notes:

The San Vicente seco filler tobacco is a delicate leaf capable of absorbing more of the wine’s aroma from the cask, allowing the cigar to mirror the characteristics of a fine red wine—a combination that dances on the palate like wine swirled in a glass.

The exceptional experience begins with pronounced citrus notes. As the filler tobaccos become more prominent, the taste evolves towards pepper and roasted nuts. Creamy notes add to the remarkable balance of the cigar. In the second third, the wine cask-aged San Vicente seco takes center stage. Aromas of dark cherries dominate and are complemented by oak wood and earth. The grand finale of the Diademas Finas is characterized by pronounced notes of walnut and an increase in intensity. Additional flavors of fresh spice and vanilla add the finishing touches to a truly Grand Cru experience.
