I'm guessing if you're reading this article you most likely enjoy smoking premium cigars, but do you know what the process of making one looks like? Many of us enjoy the luxury that comes along with smoking a premium hand made cigar; however very few know the effort that goes into making the cigars. Making premium cigars like Padron, Davidoff, and Ashton can be  an extremely labor intensive process that can take several years, to go from seed to shelf. The purpose of this article will be to better acquaint ourselves with the process, and hopefully provide a new appreciation for the product we love.

Every cigar begins with a seed. The seed itself is extremely small, its equivalent to roughly the size of a candy sprinkle.Just a bottle cap full of seeds is capable of planting an entire row of crops. The seeds are first transformed into seedlings, this takes about 60 days. Once they become seedlings they can be planted in the fields; where they are fully grown in only 90 days.

The Davidoff Vault program which began in 2018, is a place where cigar aficionados can go to visit, or reacquaint themselves with factory reserves, vintage classics, and private and rare collections; these are cigars you won’t find anywhere else and are only offered in limited quantities. The newest release from the Vault is the Davidoff Exquisite a 6 x 52 toro. The Exquisite is unique because Master Blender Eladio Diaz chooses this cigar as one of his favorites to end his day. As a result he has aimed to create an exquisite smoking experience that he can pair with some of his favorite whiskeys that provide complementary flavors. The cigar is meticulously blended with a variety of tobaccos from the Dominican Republic; including a Dominican wrapper from the Yamasa region, which has become a favorite for many. In the year 2015 Davidoff released its second installment into what is known as the “black- label series” of cigars.The cigar in question was called the Escurio. The “black- label series” was groundbreaking for Davidoff; in the way that it used exotic tobaccos sourced outside of the Dominican. The success of this series has shaped the Davidoff portfolio into what it is today. Prior to the black-label series of cigars Davidoff had been known as a brand that focused on lighter blends, with a focus on dominican tobaccos.
