Ashton VSG Review

The Ashton VSG has become one of the most popular lines in Ashtons portfolio since its inception all the way back in 1999. The VSG in the cigars name refers to “Virgin Sungrown”;the prized Sumatra-seed wrapper. The wrapper leaf comes from Ecuador where the region’s delicate cloud cover filters sunlight creating optimal growing conditions. From there, it is fermented extensively by the Fuente family until it achieves its dark sheen. The wrapper is what truly makes this cigar stand out in my opinion. This cigar also marked a shift for the brand to more full bodied offerings and has consistently received high ratings industry wide.

Wrapper: Ecuador

Binder: Dominican

FIller: Dominican

Tasting Notes:

The cigar starts off with an abundance of rich flavors. These flavors include some of my personal favorites: coffee and cedar. The cigar also offers some deep leather characteristics early on. There is also a subtle spice present that is nicely balanced by some sweetness. As the cigar progresses the flavors stay pretty consistent;which in this case is not an issue for me. If your looking for a medium plus bodied cigar that offers an abundance of flavor look no further than Ashtons VSG.
