Davidoff Yamasa Review

The Davidoff Yamasa line was Davidoffs third installment to its Discovery or black label lineup of cigar blends. The Ymasa followed the Nicaraguan and Escurio lines released in 2013 and 2015. The Discovery lines were aimed to push the limits and utilize more unique tobacco from around the world. The Yamasa in this regard follows that ideology. What makes the Yamasa line truly stand out is the wrapper used. The Yamasa wrapper had been used previously in some limited editions, but this was the first time it was utilized in a core line. The Yamasa region produces some of the best tobacco in the world. However the soil can be unforgiving. Discovering that the soil contained too much sand and loam, they added nitrate and calcium by hand to each and every single tobacco plant.

Wrapper: Yamasa (Dominican Republic)

Binder: San Vincente from Yamasa (Dominican Republic)

Filler: Nicaragua (Condega, Esteli),  Dominican (Piloto, Mejorado)

Tasting Notes:

Right out of the gate the Yamasa hits the palate with a fair amount of pepper and spice; this is even more noticeable on the retrohale. In combination we are also getting notes of chocolate and coffee. As the cigar progresses you begin to pick up notes of both oak and cedar. The cigar also offers a rich creamy characteristic that I really enjoy in a cigar. Aslo a very subtle sweetness is present which I think compliments the abundance of spice very nicely. Overall this cigar is definitely one of the fuller bodied offerings in Davidoffs portfolio and offers a tremendous amount of complexity.
